| Trekking in the Everest Region starts Lukla (2840m), a much higher altitude than most treks, taking you straightly to the lap of the mountains. This region contains 3 of the world's 10 highest peaks namely, Lhotse, Cho Oyu & of course, Mount Everest. Acclimatisation & trekking is, in general, more difficult than other areas because of the high elevation. It is also slightly more expensive as most villages are mere yak pastures & you are most of the time out in the wild. High Mountain pastures are often dotted with turquoise lakes combined with deep gorges & glacier ice that makes you feels like you are on 'top of the world'.
This is also the homeland of Sherpas, people renowned world over for their good humour, hospitality, strength, & exceptional mountaineering skills. |
