Rara Lake Trek

Difficulty:

Easy to moderate trekking to altitudes between 2000m/6500 ft and 3500m/11500 ft. Grade 2 tours involve some longer walks. Some previous hill-walking experience is desirable. They may best be described as mild. Up to 6.5 hours / 15 miles per day.

Trekking to the magnificent Rara Lake should be top on every naturalist’s “To-Do” list. Not only will you get to experience the biggest lake in Nepal (16 km 2), but you will also get to trek through the Rara National Park. Here you will see an abundance of flora and fauna, while getting to soak in breathtaking views of the mighty Himalayas. A bit of stamina is required for this trek as you will be walking on mountain paths. These paths will take your through picturesque villages that will give you a taste of every-day Nepali life.

Day 01 - Arrive in Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel.
Day 02 - Half day sightseeing around the Kathmandu valley.
Day 03 - Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj Alt. 150m / 492ft. (1hr)
Day 04 - Fly from Nepalgunj to Jumla (Zone headquarters for Karnali) Alt. 2,370m / 7,773ft. (35mins)
Day 05 - Trek to Charya Chaur Alt. 2,700m / 8,856ft. (5hrs)
Day 06 - Trek over the Khari-Lagna Pass (3,600m) trek to Riyan Alt. 2,800m / 9,184ft. (6 1/2 hrs)
Day 07 - Trek to Chautha Alt. 2,770m / 9,085ft. (6hrs)
Day 08 - Trek over Ghurchi-Lagna La Pass (3,500m) trek to Pina Alt. 2,600m / 8,528ft. (5 1/2 hrs)

  • Entry Visa fees - at present $25 for 15 day, US$ 40 for 30 day, and US$ 100 for three month visa on entry into Nepal.
  • Insurance which covers, medical, emergency evacuation, lost, theft expenses.
  • Drinks: both alcoholic and bottled other than sterilized drinking water.
  • Laundry fees.
  • All food and beverages other than on the itinerary. 
  • Personal gear and expenses.
  • Tips and gratitude provided to staff.
